Does anyone remember these from 2011?

http://gawker.com/5871449/all-the-viral-videos-of-the-year-in-two-minutes

2012 was the year of the viral. I for one wish Rebecca Black had never come into my life, but in gawker’s compiled list of 2011 videos there are some real gems.

Enjoy,

Happy 2012,

Jim x

Eurrrrgggghhh.....

Hello everyone. Sorry its taken a while to get another of these here posts up, laptop charger failures, business and food comas have got in the way. Still, now I’ve had some digestion time and can actually bend forwards now, its probably blog time!

Hope y’all had a teriffic yule and that Santa performed his/her duties adequately. We had our pre-feast gig at the Bull and Gate, which was great fun so big hugs for those who came along. There was some video footage taken, so hopefully that can be sprung on an unsuspecting YouTube audience soon……..

Sadly for all you blog regulars (thanks for your support, Mum) I am off to the mythical land of New York in a few days. While this is extremely exciting, it does mean that there will either be blog silence for a while, or you will be put in the hands of another deserving (but possibly less cuddly……) band member. So apologies for this. This does mean that I might have to pile this one full of news so here goes……

The massive run of London gigs is approaching. So no excuses about tube strikes/laziness/velociraptor infestations in SE12 OK? Dates and venues are as follows

5th Jan - The Monarch, Camden (Cos, you know, being a band, you, like, have to play Camden, yah?)
7th Jan - The Good Ship, Kilburn (Homecoming (ish) show for Joe)
11th Jan - New Cross Inn, New Cross (No idea where this is but it should be fun)
13th Jan - Mother Live, Shoreditch (East innit Guv)
14th Jan - The Spice Of Life, Soho (Beware anyone that calls themself Lola)

So do make yourself avaliable for some of these. If anyone comes to all 5 there may be a glittering prize for them…….

Anyway, have a lovely New Years and all that, enjoy the endless cold cuts, and see you in 2012!

Peace to all! X

Christmas is coming and the bassist is getting fat...

So its only a week til the big festival of eating, presents and sometimes even a bit of religion. The excitement is building……

This also means we are getting closer to playing the infamous Bull and Gate in Camden. We are very excited about this, so please come along. Nothing like some music after a day of panic Christmas shopping eh?! Obviously drinks and frivolities are likely to follow.

Then once NYE has been survived, we have are own little tour of London in January. Have a look at the poster below, we should be playing somewhere near you, so no excuses……. And kudos to the combined photoshop skills of Ed and Jim (you know, the guitaring one).

Hope to see y’all around on Thursday, if not then January will do…….. Get them in the diary

If I don’t manage to get another of these in before Crimbo, big Christmas love to one and all. Don’t eat all the stocking chocolate in one go - You definately won’t fit any turkey, stuffing and, most importantly, SPROUTS in.

Peace x

A Partridge in a Snare Tree

Some of you may believe that drum kit based puns aren’t funny. Comedy stick-lers.

BAM! Ok that’s enough of that.

Firstly I really do need to point out how awesome the graphic design stuff Ed has produced for us is. Its on Facebook. Seriously amazing work. If Picasso used photoshop……..

Thanks to all you lovely people who came out to Finsbury yesterday for the gig. It was great fun. Such a cool little venue, and its always good to play with some other amazing bands (Fuzzy Logic Baby and Cardinal Jack - Both well worth a look!). Big thanks to Shaun for getting us in.

But thats all in the past now. As a (supposedly) dynamic and modern band, we need to look to the future. So, roll on 22nd December. Once your done panic buying badly thought out gifts for your family, come on down to The Bull and Gate. You know, the awesome place in Camden. For we shall be appearing, along with a selection of other fine acts. Extensive details are avaliable here.

http://www.clubfandango.co.uk/bg_gig.php?id=2184

Rumours are that there may even be a smattering of fancy dress. So for those of you who have always wanted to see Jim in his slutty Miss Santa outfit, now is the chance. Please feel free to do similar, it would be amazing to pay to a room full of people in loud festive knitwear.

Sadly the photo pickings from last night are a bit slim, but heres a little snapshot for those vicariously minded people…….

Enjoy all your Christmas parties. It seems you can’t go in to a pub any more without being accosted by drunk people in silly hats and tinsel. Ahhh Christmas……

Food For Thought

So the following sentiment is spreading round Facebook like influenza in the over 70s ward of St. Georges:

Everyone please take time to read this if you like live music of any kind… Spare some thoughts for the costs of the labour of music… [1] sit on the door at a gig sometime and watch the surprise with which punters respond to being asked to pay a £5 per head entry fee [2] then sit at the bar for a while and watch the largesse with which those same people will shout all their mates beers at £3.50 a head [3] take a look at the gig poster. How many bands are on the bill? If it’s four bands, then do the maths and figure out that each band is going to get £1.25 from your entry fee, minus costs. And if that band has four members, each will get 31p, minus costs [4] while you’re admiring the poster, ask who designed it, and the flyers, who printed them, who distributed them and at what cost [5] ask the bar manager what the bar has charged the performers for venue hire - you may well find that amount to be hundreds of pounds [6] ask the bar manager what the bar returns to the performers from alcohol sales - you may well find that amount is exactly zero pounds [7] ask the sound operator and the lighting operator what they are charging the performers tonight [8] ask the band where they rehearse this music and what the rental cost on their practice space is [9] ask the band what time of the day/night do they compose, arrange and rehearse this music, and what impact does this have on their family life and their income earning potential from extra-musical jobs. By the way it’s far more than likely they will have day-jobs than not [10] ask the band if - given all the above - their labour is futile. They will tell you that, on the contrary, it is highly worthwhile. Happy Musicians’ Resilience Day!! Re-post if you’re a musician, or just like it that musicians exist.

Some of this is pretty fair - We are all broke and could do with a few extra pennies, (I would only spend them on effects pedals anyway) but ultimately money really is not important and is certainly not why we are all musicians. Its a cliche but it really is for the love of the music. As soon as you start seeking money, writing songs with bland euphoric choruses designed to be belted out by morons in stadia [cough, cough, Coldplay cough]), you’ve lost that bit of truth and soul that attracted people to you in the first place.

Jim x

Yule Be Silly To Miss

Sorry, couldn’t resist it.

GIGS! LOTS OF THEM!

We have stuffed the Christmas holidays with gigs. Firstly, the 8th December at The Silver Bullet near Finsbury Park. Please make sure you have Google safe search on if you decide to look this place up and probably clear it from your internet history as well……. It may be on a Thursday, but its only a recession-busting 3 pounds.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=310282752324099

Then we have the 22nd December, at The Bull and Gate in Camden. We’re very excited to be playing at this prestigious venue, so it would be cracking to pack it out. I’m sure a minor mulled wine fiesta will follow this, to which you are all cordially invited. Its 5 squid in advance, or 6 on the door, there is some sort of flyer deal going on too, but I need to work out how to actually do that first. Bring your dancing shoes and fancy dress if you want. The Santa jacket may even make an appearance…….

We are then taking a break to eat, drink and watch low quality television before we return, playing The Good Ship in Kilburn on the 7th and The New Cross Inn on the 11th (both in January, obviously). More details of these nearer the time, otherwise this could end up being a very long rambling entry.

There might even be more to come as well. I’m almost struggling to keep up.

Still, its going to be fun. Lots of fun. Joe is even offering free hugs to anyone who comes. If you needed more of an incentive, that is…….

And That's a Fact...

So the launch of The Birthday Club was a huge success. Cheers to all who braved embarassment by rocking out big style at broad daylight (AKA - The Butts….again). Shout outs due to Rosie and Alex (again) + Izzy, Sam, Robbie and Dave (Newbies) + Nick B for having us.

Anyway, for your pleasure here are three interesting facts about us you may not know about us dudes:

For three years we were called ‘The Phoenix & The Turtle’ but changed our name to stop getting confused with Californian prog-rock band of the same name.

Joe has one size 12 foot and one size 8 foot although his hands are of similar sizes.

We first met Will when he turned up a week early for his previous band’s practice. We stole him.

Ok. So one of these isn’t a fact. Hmmmm…which one?

x

Australian Kisses and Jerk Chicken

Its probably time to get this here blog rolling!

So, last weekend we had the delights and darkness of Aussie Kiss, a big student windsurfing bonanza. Basically, take 700 wildly enthusiastic students in X rated fancy dress, put them on a Cornish campsite, fill them with basics vodka and then play a gig to them. What you see in your head, thats probably accurate. Highlights include being tickled by several ‘French maids’ with dusters and a man in a particularly skimpy thong.

Oh, and feeding Joe a dog treat by telling him it was a traditional dried Cornish sausage.

None of us actually made it windsurfing in the end. I did creep in for a bit of a swim though.

Hopefully there will be some snaps and even a review coming soon. We’ll keep you posted.

On to next weekend. We are appearing at an event at the Kensington Roof Gardens on 5th November. Gunpowder, treason and all that. The idea is to represent all of London in one area, so we are holding up the side for Camden (no, we have no connection, its more the underground band scene IN Camden we’re representing), but there will be a Carribean BBQ, an illusionist and some fireworks. Or so I’m told. So it sounds like an interesting day out. Do drop by.

Not sure how to intro this, but I am working for an online magazine doing gig reviews. So here is one of Random Hand, a most excellent skacore act.

http://www.intermissionbristol.co.uk/2011/10/16/random-hand/

Coming soon, a review and INTERVIEW with The Cat Empire. I’m working on The Maccabees and Pure Reason Revolution as well. PR people eh?

Otherwise, the EP train keeps on rolling, I have finally come to terms with Spooks ending (or has it? Ooooooh…..) and Jim is still using the word ‘Yarth’ in most sentences.

Hugs, kisses and lemonade

Co Su-who?

Yes hello everybody, welcome to the world of CoSupreme, emergency exits are situated here, here and here.

For everyone who dosen’t know, we are the band formerly known as The Phoenix & The Turtle. Sorry for the confusion, but it turns out we aren’t the only people who liked that name, and sadly the Californian prog stoner version got there first. Rats. But here we are, bigger, bolder and nuttier.

We hope you enjoy our new shiny website, we done it all ourselves an everything. We also have new Facebook, Soundcloud and Twitter accounts, so do come over and join the digital party.

So, introductions over, lets get down to idle prattle shall we?

Our EP is still on the way, yes its taking a while but (as Guinness have led us to believe) good things come to those who wait. Its sounding great too. Hopefully a little sneak peek will be avaliable soon, but until then you’ll just have to take our word for it………

And of course there was the events of Friday. Wow. What a venue. What a crowd. Thanks out to Wush, The Correspondents and everyone who made it down, it was a great way to launch our new identity and see so many people! There will be photos and even a video or two on their way for anyone who missed it or just has a strange nostalgic urge to relive it.

So, new blog is underway, please revisit us for more mindless ramblings about music, gigs and dairy products. Do feel free to shout at us, it seems we have a comments box below somewhere so make good use of it. During the meanwhile, heres some useful links.

http://www.facebook.com/cosupreme
https://twitter.com/#!/CoSupreme

Ta Ra then

x
